Bladder, stones, kidney failure, cancer, diabetes, anemia, and liver disease. Scary words, aren't they? Do these serious diseases have something in common? All of these diseases were diagnosed recently at our hospital. More ominously they were diagnosed in young outwardly normal appearing dogs and cats. These pets belonged to loving, caring, attentive owners who had no idea their beloved family member had anything wrong with them. Fortunately all six of these patients are presently doing well. Their longevity and quality of life improved greatly by early detection. One of them is my own pet.
There is one other common link between these cases. All of them were detected by routine laboratory profiling during their regular wellness visits. We know you love your pets, take excellent care of them, and want them to have the longest and very best quality of life. We also know you look to us as your care provider to make available the most up to date care for your four-legged family members needs. Regular examinations and routine lab screening have been a part of the care you and I have received for years. We believe our patients are entitled to the same level of care we have come to expect for ourselves.
Accordingly. We have upgraded our standards of care at Critter Care Animal Hospital. Wellness care for young, healthy pets under seven years of age now include a comprehensive physical exam and routine laboratory testing, termed "a basic blood profile", every six months. This takes into account the rapid aging that occurs in our pets relative to us.
Those of you who have been in to see us recently are aware of this change. The response has been very positive. A number of pets have had normal examinations and lab results, something we are always pleased to find. In keeping with our increased emphasis on the total wellness care of your pet, we have made one other change to our wellness program. Yearly core immunizations are now free. We are excited about the opportunity to continue to celebrate the bond we share with our pets by giving them a long , happy, and pain free life. If more than six months have elapsed since your pets last comprehensive exam, please call us for an appointment.
